It´s all about tactics. Look for a channel and find the spot where it´s as easy as possible to cross the waves. A bigger board and a powerful sail will make it easier to make it out to the waves you want to ride. The speed is your friend. With more speed you can move around easier and avoid being at the spots where the wave will wash you. If you get washed, stay calm.
