PWA reports: Noerstick Cold Hawaii PWA Youth Wave World Cup certainly didn’t disappoint with Klitmøller delivering a full day of competition, which allowed results to be gained in every fleet. The next generation was given a stern test with the North Sea throwing up some sizeable nuggets, while fluctuating winds -20-35 knots – made things tricky at times. However, they passed that test with flying colors with every fleet putting on impressive performances.
We at Starboard asked our young Dream Team riders Giulio, Liam and Lennart about the Cold Hawaii Experience:
Giulio Gasperini:
“The event in Denmark was very good for me! I managed to get on the podium which was my goal and in the end, I got second place in conditions I have not been training much in. It was the first time for me sailing in Klitmøller, and with a strong young fleet, I´m happy about my performance. Another highlight was to get the first place in one of the super sessions! I feel very happy and satisfied!
The conditions were fun, but very challenging too! The biggest challenge was the strong current on the inside. For me, as an Italian windsurfer, I had to get used to the cold temperature, big waves, and strong/gusty wind. So it was not easy, but I like difficult conditions. There is always something to learn! I improved my wave riding and managed to land some backloops! I have been training backloops the last months now, and I’m starting to do goiters on starboard tack now.
During the contest, I used the UltraKode 65L and UltraKode 76L. Those are my two favorite boards! My plan after Denmark is to go back to Rome and start school! I will continue to train hard in wave, freestyle and slalom!”

Liam Dunkerbeck:
“Hi all! The event in Denmark was super fun! To sail there was not as cold as everyone says! The spot is even good without wind as there is a lot of things to do in Klitmøller. The competition day was super nice! I was fully powered on my 3,8 m sail and 65L UltraKode. Some of the waves were really big! Before the event I was training a lot of wave sailing in Pozo, Gran Canaria. I´m lucky to call Pozo my homespot! It has been a great season to practice and learn new things. Some new moves are back and frontside 360´s and some double loops!”
Lennart Neubauer:
“The event was really nice! We had crazy conditions on the first day. Really big waves! We were all sending it and getting out of the comfort zone in our heats. It was nice to compete and see all my friends again on tour. I´m a really competitive guy so this contest was really important. I have not trained a lot of port tack this year, so that will be focused on a lot for next season. I want to come back better and stronger in the waves, next to pushing my freestyle level as much as possible.”
