Starboard rider Miriam Rasmussen sent us an update from her current situation. She has put her time into helping out during the Coronavirus crisis in Norway. Here’s a short update she sent us on what Miriam and her partner Pål have been up to for the past couple of weeks.
Words by Miriam Rasmussen:
I AM A NURSE
What isn’t common knowledge is that I’m a nurse. Somewhere along the road, that got lost to windsurfing, but there is a time for having fun and a time for getting serious. A week after returning back from my stay in Egypt I volunteered to help out during the onset of the corona epidemic in Norway. As we live in a scarcely populated country, and we are at a relatively early stage and implemented a strict isolation regime to avoid the virus from spreading, it seems like we can avoid the disastrous scenes that we see in other parts of the world. My job is to take care of infected people who are quarantined in their own houses. Because of the large number of health care workers being infected or quarantined, I work many hours every day. I only go home to eat and sleep.
It feels great to be useful and help out during these hard times. My thoughts are with all those who are affected and threatened by the ongoing pandemic.
WE ARE DOING OUR BEST TO TURN THINGS INTO SOMETHING POSITIVE
My partner and photographer Pål went into isolation at the same time I volunteered. He started on a full rehabilitation of our house. Literally tearing roofs, walls, and floors down. We are going to rebuild the house to a higher standard. Because of our devotion to windsurfing, the house has gradually transformed into a dump the past ten years, so this rehabilitation is much needed! The plan is to sell the house when it´s finished and buy a cheaper house in a different part of Norway. Like that we can reduce bank loans and increase life quality in the process. We are trying to make the most out of the situation, and we are doing our best to turn things into something positive!
I hope, when this crisis is over, we will see each other on the water somewhere!
