Oda Johanne is back with another great windsurfing edit, This is Living, showing her time spent in Brazil. She visits Brazil every year for a winter training and this year it was full of action. This video is a celebration of progression, as Oda pushes her limits in freestyle and wave sailing, stepping up her game once again. Brazil became the go-to getaway for all water sports enthusiasts looking for a warm and windy place in the winter. Enjoying quality time on and off the water with friends makes this place a perfect training camp for the upcoming season. Check out the new edit from Oda below and enjoy the summer vibes!
Oda about her favorite spots and conditions in Brazil:
“I stayed in Brazil three months this year. It was extra cool and so good for freestyle because of the way the sandbank has shaped a bit downwind from Jeri. It felt like I was sailing in Dakla in Morocco. The conditions were very similar and good for both tacks. We were a great crew and pushed each other freestyle level.
Besides freestyling, it was also great for surf foiling, sup foiling, winging, just everything that I like to do. So far, this was my best trip to Brazil because I felt a lot of progress in all the different disciplines. Especially in freestyle, I felt like I was more consistent. I was super happy with my iGNiTE 87 board, which works for me the best. At these spots it is very easy as you need only two sails 4.0 and 4.4. There is very consistent wind almost every day. And the mix of sailing small jumping waves in Jeri and at Maliada, which is the upwind spot, to super flat water in Guru. If you want even more wind, you go into the lagoon, which is about one hour away from Jeri. So it’s just a very good place for all levels of windsurfers.”
Oda reflects on the camps she organized together with Sarah-Quita and Windsurf University in Brazil:
“And at the same time, we had two amazing windsurfing camps there in November. And that was awesome. It was fun to see the participants discovering Brazil for the first time and taking them into the desert on the boogie ride. Seeing them improving, learning loops and freestyle, everything from that to water starts and jibes, tacks. It’s cool to share the place that I love. And it’s one of my favourite places. I enjoyed sharing that with all my friends that were there and through Windsurfing University camps.
I was supposed to leave to go home before Christmas. But the conditions were so good and it kept on being windy. So then I decided to skip Christmas and New Year’s in Norway and had it the Brazilian way.”
