The 2024 Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup took place at the famous Pozo Izquierdo with a perfect wind record. Pozo delivered gnarly and challenging conditions during the 9 days of competition. We could see slalom riders fighting for the top places as Slalom X debuted on the World Tour. Different courses with various obstacles tested the riders physically and mentally. Sarah-Quita Offringa was crowned the Queen of Pozo claiming victory in both Wave and Slalom X discipline. In the Men’s fleet, our rider Matteo Iachino delivered stable results during the whole event and claimed second place. All our riders were using the Starboard iSonic.
The Slalom X Women’s Fleet
Sarah-Quita Offringa after winning the Wave discipline finished the event perfectly. She was leading the final Slalom X race from start to finish and claimed a double victory. She won 7 out of 11 Slalom X races. Sarah-Quita was using the Starboard iSonic 63.
Our rider from the Netherlands, Femke van der Veen scored her first PWA bullet and finished in 5th place. We were excited to see Oda Johanne back on the slalom course, where she secured a sixth-place finish and achieved the longest jump on a slalom board.
Sarah-Quita about her win in Slalom X:
“I’m super super excited to win the Slalom X. It’s been the roughest conditions I’ve ever competed slalom in and all the girls were very fast. It was a very technical game and you really had to adapt to all the different courses. It was super exciting until the end and I’m looking forward to the next round in Fuerteventura.”
The Slalom X Men’s fleet
Matteo Iachino showed great consistency throughout the entire event. Even though he faced technical problems, crashes, and early starts, he always managed to bounce back and eventually secured second place. Our young Starboard rider from France, Benoit Merceur, achieved his best results to date, finishing in 5th place overall.
Both Matteo and Benoit were using the Starboard iSonic, which undoubtedly contributed to their strong performances. The iSonic’s design and features provided them with the speed and control needed to compete at such a high level. Overall, it was a successful event for our Starboard team, highlighting the talent and dedication of our riders.
