The second stop of the Freestyle Pro Tour took place in southern Italy in the lovely town of Vieste. It was the first-ever event with 3 freestyle disciplines: freestyle, foilstyle and tow-in. More than 35 competitors came to show their skills. Despite the lack of wind for a regular fin freestyle, the five days of competition were packed with action. Our Starboard riders claimed multiple podium places. The young and talented Lennart Neubauer scored an incredible double win in tow-in and foilstyle. Steven van Broeckhoven completed the podium in third place in the foilstyle discipline. All our riders were using the iGNiTE for tow-in and the iGNiTE AiR in foilstyle.
Foilstyle
In the foilstyle discipline, the organizers managed to complete the single elimination. Our two Starboard riders Lennart Neubauer and Steven van Broeckhoven met in the semi-final. Steven showed great form and a wide repertoire of moves, even multiple back loops. In the end, dominant Lennart advanced into the final. He was up against the 2023 Foilstyle champion Yentel Caers next. It was a very tight battle and we could see foilstyling taken to another level. After a clean Shifty and Pasko from Lennart, he claimed the victory. Steven van Broeckhoven completed the podium in third place. Both our riders were using the Starboard iGNiTE AiR.
Tow-in
Tow-in being discipline which doesn’t need wind was a perfect match to the no-wind days. Even with wind taking a break there was plenty of action on the beach. First, there were qualifications at the Spiagga Lunga beach, the official event spot. Lennart Neubauer secured his spot in the finals with a very smooth Air Funnel Burner. The finals were scheduled for Saturday morning in the heart of old Vieste town. With beautiful scenery and many spectators, the best of the best showed their skills. The podium was not decided until the very end and Lennart was even kicked off the podium places until his last attempt. He stepped up and scored a perfect score of 10 points with an incredible Skopu Funnel. Lennart was using the Starboard iGNiTE 93L.
