The final event of the Freestyle Pro Tour took place last week at Brouwersdam in the Netherlands. With a promising forecast, the organizers gave the green light during the waiting period and all riders moved to the famous spot at Brouwersdam. After fully action-packed 3 days of competition the Champions were crowned. Our Starboard multi-talent Lennart Neubauer defended his leading position on tour and claimed his first European Title in freestyle. After the first day of the event, the battle for the European Title was still on between Lennart and his Starboard teammate Steven Van Broeckhoven. Steven had a very consistent season with top-level freestyle action and he was without a doubt a serious candidate for the European Title. After close heats in very unstable and shifting conditions, Steven finished in second place and claimed the Vice-European Title. In the Women’s division, our Starboard rider Oda Johanne finished in third place in the overall rankings. All our riders were using the ultimate freestyle machine, the Starboard iGNITE.
Lennart Neubauer about his first European Title and plans for the next season:
” Winning my first European Title was a special moment. While growing up it was my long-time dream and now it has become a reality. It all came so fast that it took me a while to realize how big of a deal it actually was. It is a good way to end the season. I hope it is the first of many. Now I am fully back on track with training for the next season after 4 days of recovery and rest. I want to have a jumpstart against my competitors so I plan to train physically and mentally really, really hard this winter. My goal is to be the World Champion and the European Champion the next year and do well in the Wave Tour as well. Right now I am going to Austria for a recovery and rehabilitation program for 2 weeks and then in January, I travel to Cape Town for 2 months. After that, the competition tour starts.”
Steven is an absolute G.O.A.T. of the Freestyle scene!
Well-known Steven Van Broeckhoven has been an inseparable part and a legend of the windsurfing freestyle scene. He didn’t prove otherwise at the final event of the FPT Tour at Brouwersdam. Steven claimed his Vice-European Title and finished in second place in the event. With his ever-lasting style, radical moves and crazy combinations he still belongs to the best freestyle riders in the world. Despite many young, talented freestyle riders climbing the rankings, Steven’s experience and consistency deliver the results.
