The Gran Canaria World Cup is underway and we have the results from the wave discipline. Pozo didn’t disappoint and delivered typical 40 knots and big ramps. We could see an amazing air action from all the riders fighting for the title. Sarah-Quita Offringa fulfilled her long-time dream and was crowned the Queen of Pozo after her heated final. She kicked off her wave tour with a banger and claimed the victory. Liam Dunkerbeck showed incredible potential in the Pro Men’s division, finishing in 5th place and winning the U21 Boy’s category the day after. Lennart Neubauer finished second in the U21 Boy’s category after a close battle with Liam.
Sarah-Quita about her win in Pozo:
“For me, it’s a dream come true to win the event. It’s the discipline and the spot on tour that I’ve always looked up to and that I’ve been working hard for the last 10 years because it’s so far out of my comfort zone. To be at the top at this event for me it’s a real dream come true. And especially coming from Aruba which is a flat water island. So that’s why I’m extra proud of it. I’ve been here a month training on my 3.7,4.0 but like every year during the contest, the wind is a little bit stronger. It was the first time for me sailing in such strong conditions on a 3.3 and I feel like you can’t prepare for that. So you just need to adapt on the day and I’m glad that I managed to keep my nerves together and in the final I just put in the performance that I needed. I’m still taking it and I’m very happy about it.”

The U21 Boy’s division
Our young Starboard rider Liam Dunkerbeck secured a hard-fought victory in the U21 Boy’s Wave division, successfully fending off a strong challenge from his teammate Lennart Neubauer, who took second place. Both Liam and Lennart started the heat impressively with excellent double forward loops, keeping the competition tight. The turning point came when Liam executed a radical one-footed forward loop. His superior wave riding ultimately set him in front, earning him the well-deserved win and keeping him on track to defend his title from last year.
