THE PLASTIC OFFSET PROGRAM
Scientists tells us that the ocean is expected to contain more plastics than fish (by weight) by 2050. As surfers, this is something we experience every session on the water and we see this problem increasing at an alarming rate. The problem is here and we have to act now.
In the end of 2017 we initiated the world’s first plastic offset program (POP). The idea is easy: an internal plastic tax assigns a dollar value to each material, then multiplies by the usage in our products. The funds from the tax goes to a pilot program that does cleanups of plastic from the beaches in Pattaya, Thailand, offsetting Starboards plastic impact.

The POP program encourages us to rethink and reinvent how we use plastic and further reduce the plastic consumption. Eliminating plastics from production, or switching to less harmful varieties and recycled sources (and thus with lower offset prices) incentivises re-engineering and reduction of plastic consumption habits.
We advice and invite more companies to follow this initiative to help make greater progress.
The pictures below reflects the plastic offset program down at the beaches in Pattaya, Thailand. Further down you can find live information of their progress.

VISION
Starboard was founded 1994 in New Caledonia. Our vision is to bring innovation and inspiration to the world of wind, water and waves.
Because of ocean pollution, it's now not only about making the best boards in the world, but also the best boards for the world.
